Open Call for 2025 Residency Programs

January 20, 2025

Greetings artists!

Thank you for your interests in the Oreum Residency in Jeju Island, South Korea.

There will be a minimum of 2 editions this year. The Spring edition is from April to June, and the Summer edition is from July to September.

What is Oreum?

Oreum is named after the Korean word 오름, which carries two different meanings. One refers to the approximately 360 small volcanoes spread across the island of Jeju. The other refers to the action of climbing up. As such, our mission at Oreum Residency is to nurture and support emerging artists through a distinctive artist residency program.

Where is Oreum going to happen?

Oreum is going to take place at a luxury townhome community named Cedar Hill, at Seogwipo-Si, Jeju Island, South Korea. Jeju Island is renowned for its distinctive atmosphere, featuring natural parks, waterfalls, vibrant contemporary art scene, and of course, the Oreums, all set against a backdrop rich with historical narratives and cultural significance. This inspiring landscape will serve as the perfect setting for our residency program, offering artists the opportunity to immerse themselves in both the natural beauty and the cultural depth of Jeju Island.

Oreum Residency offers high-quality residential living spaces and studio areas to a total of 10 emerging artists and creatives per edition. The program is open to artists based in South Korea and international artists. There are no age restrictions. The main communication language is English.

When does the residency start?

The Spring edition residency program will culminate from 7 April - 15 June (10 weeks), while the Summer edition residency program will occur from 14 July - 21 September (10 weeks).

Artists must declare in their application form which residency edition they would like to participate in.

Who created Oreum?

Oreum is a collaborative project facilitated by Cedar Hill, a residential space developer in jeju, and co-organized by DiSilence Creative Agency, a creative agency in Atlanta USA, and Zip Amsterdam, a cultural non-profit foundation in the Netherlands
