Maesil Shirt is inspired by childhood memories of the folktale "Fairy and the Woodcutter" (선녀와 나무꾼), reimagined as a story of the making of diasporic homes. Block printed “cloud ribs” embrace the body as an assertion that, though we may find ourselves in many houses across place and time, never quite complete, home lives between our ribs, always breathing. This garment is block printed by hand and sewn from deadstock organza, inspired by the silhouettes, textures, and wear of hanbok. Single closure mother-of-pearl button with checkerboard detail. Side vents for max comfort and flow. Care: To preserve printed detail, handle with gentle care. Hand wash with cold water. No bleach. Hang dry. With time, print will wear into the fabric of well-loved garments.
